Community Giving

Delta Dental of California, Delta Dental Insurance Company, Delta Dental of Pennsylvania and affiliates provided more than $3.25 million in direct donations, grants and services in 2007.

In addition to donations to a variety of community and health care causes, included in this amount is:

• $1 million ($985,828) for materials that promote oral health
• $617,079 to providing dental services and supplies to underserved populations
• $390,000 to Louisiana State University’s dental school and Georgia Tech’s dental clinic

Each year, Delta Dental provides scholarships to dental school students who show strong leadership skills and a commitment to public service as demonstrated by civic and community involvement related to dental service. In 2007, these awards totaled $170,000, plus an additional $80,000 in scholarships to Hispanic dental school students, for a total of $250,000.

To date in 2008, we have awarded $212,500 to 65 dental school students. We anticipate additional grants in 2008 via our Hispanic scholarship fund, which provides annual loans and grants to dental school students whose goal is to practice dentistry in the Hispanic community.
