SECOND OPINION

You may request a second opinion if you disagree with or question the diagnosis and/or treatment plan determination made by your Contract Dentist. Delta Dental may also request that an Enrollee obtain a second opinion to verify the necessity and appropriateness of dental treatment or the application of benefits.

Second opinions will be rendered by a licensed Dentist in a timely manner, appropriate to the nature of the Enrollee's condition. Requests involving cases of imminent and serious health threat will be expedited with authorization approved or denied within 72 hours of receipt of the request, whenever possible. Second opinions will be provided at another Contract Dentist facility, unless otherwise authorized by Delta Dental's dental consultant. Delta Dental will pay only for a second opinion which Delta Dental has approved or authorized.
