Important: Alternate ID information
Stanford employees enrolled in a Delta Dental Plan have been assigned an alternate identification (ID) number which will replace the social security number (SSN). To obtain your new alternate ID number, call Delta Dental’s Customer Service Department at 877- 442-7462. You should use your alternate ID number when you visit your dentist, contact Customer Service or use our secure online services.

Using your alternate ID number will help reduce the risk of identity theft. Your employee ID numbers are subject to the same privacy protections as social security numbers under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy Rule. While you may continue to use your SSN, you may want to advise your dental office of your new alternate ID number at your next visit. (You may then use either your SSN or your alternate ID number). Remember, when you visit a Delta Dental dentist, you don't need to present your ID card. Simply provide the dental office with your alternate ID number or your SSN.
