Dental Wellness and Education Initiative

Helping advance dental health

Dental wellness and education initiative in multicultural communities

Delta Dental’s multicultural outreach efforts focus on educating children about the importance of dental health. To do so, we offer dental health presentations and resources to public schools throughout the country. Nearly 30,000 children have benefited from our efforts to date.

We have some help from a friend: Ratoncito Pérez

To connect with the growing number of bicultural, bilingual children, the program features Ratoncito Pérez, the Hispanic counterpart to the Tooth Fairy. The legendary character visits schools to teach children in an entertaining way about the importance of oral hygiene.

Ratoncito Pérez is also the star of our award-winning educational video, available at no cost to schools nationwide.

Why we’re doing this

Delta Dental’s mission is to advance dental health and access. Statistics show that children in the U.S. lose nearly 750,000 school hours each year due to dental problems, despite that these lost hours largely are preventable. Additionally, according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, untreated tooth decay is nearly twice as common among Hispanic primary school children as non-Hispanic whites.

Where can you find us
