Delta Dental's Rancho Cordova Facility Earns Sacramento Sustainable Business Certification
November 11 , 2008
Rancho Cordova, CA — Delta Dental of California is among a handful of city businesses to be awarded a sustainable business certification, company officials announced today.
The Sacramento Sustainable Business program, which is overseen by the Sacramento Business Environmental Research Center, certifies businesses that implement measures and practices in at least one of five areas — energy conservation, water conservation, pollution prevention, solid waste reduction and green building. Currently, only six Rancho Cordova companies in addition to Delta Dental are certified.
"In a time of threatened resources, it is important for business to take a leading role in conserving them, or 'sustainability,' as it is called. We are pleased to earn this certification, but especially so if it encourages other businesses to proceed in the same direction," said Gary D. Radine, Delta Dental president and CEO. "There is more to do, especially as technological advancements continue. For our Rancho Cordova offices, we will next undertake several more 'green' projects, ranging from lighting upgrades to paper reduction and improved energy efficiency."
The company’s Sacramento Sustainable Business certifications include energy conservation and pollution prevention, both of which meet many individual criteria ranging from proper reuse and recycling of materials to replacing lights and using more energy-efficient computers and equipment. In addition, Delta Dental is currently working toward obtaining a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for one of its Rancho Cordova buildings.
Delta Dental recently partnered with iReuse Consulting, a sustainability consulting company, to develop and manage a comprehensive sustainability transformation, including energy efficiency improvements, sustainable purchasing, resource conservation, employee education and waste reduction. "iReuse is most pleased to help Delta Dental extend its history of industry leadership into sustainable business practices," said Ken Kurtzig, iReuse CEO. "Delta Dental’s commitment to improved environmental stewardship benefits the planet, employees, stakeholders and the broader community."
