New Delta Dental Web Site Educates Americans on Dental as a Part of Health Care Reform

April 7, 2009

San Francisco/Mechanicsburg, PA — The holding company system that includes Delta Dental of California, Delta Dental of Pennsylvania and Delta Dental Insurance Company announced today the launch of a new web site to help educate the public, regulators, lawmakers and policymakers about the importance of considering how health care reform might impact dental benefits.

Hosted by the national Delta Dental Plans Association, company officials said the new web site, located at, captures and articulates its position on healthcare reform and the importance of considering how oral health might be helped or hindered under new proposals put forward by Congress.

"Delta Dental is committed to the effort to include wider access to affordable dental care in overall health care reform," says Gary D. Radine, President and CEO for Delta Dental of California, Pennsylvania and affiliated companies. "A vast majority of the 173 million Americans with dental benefits are generally satisfied with their employer-sponsored dental coverage, while another130 million Americans lack such coverage. We think it imperative that Congress take into account how to help the dentally uninsured without jeopardizing those who are already insured."

The new web site includes information about the effects of poor oral health, the connection between oral and overall health, and the significant differences between medical and dental benefits with implications for national health care policy. The web site also includes information on how the potential introduction of new taxes on those who currently enjoy employer-sponsored dental benefits could take away those benefits.

"Given how important we know dental benefits are for promoting overall health, it is critical to preserve the deductibility of dental benefits for employers and individuals who purchase them," said Radine.

Visitors to the new web site can view a host of white papers and positions with respect to dental as a part of health care reform, and can sign up to receive e-mail updates about relevant health care information.
